Troops Intercept Vehicle with 1,200 Litres of Suspected Illegal Diesel in Akwa Ibom

Troops of the Nigerian Army have intercepted a vehicle conveying 1,200 litres of suspected illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil, AGO, in Akwa Ibom State.

‎Security expert Zaragoza Makama, quoting security sources, said the operation occurred at about 2:30 p.m. on June 7 along the Eket–Etinan road in Etinan Local Government Area.

‎According to the sources, troops of 6 Battalion stopped the vehicle during routine operations targeting illegal petroleum activities in the Niger Delta. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on sighting the troops.

‎A search revealed 40 bags containing approximately 1,200 litres of suspected illegally refined diesel. The vehicle and products have been secured and are being processed in line with operational procedures.

‎Security officials said the operation is part of ongoing efforts to curb crude oil theft, illegal refining and other forms of economic sabotage in the region.
‎
‎They reiterated the commitment of security agencies to protecting critical national infrastructure and urged the public to provide credible information to help apprehend those involved in illegal bunkering.
