Police in Yobe have arrested nine suspects over armed robbery incidents in Fika and Damaturu local government areas.

‎Spokesperson of the command, Dungus Abdulkarim, said the arrests are part of ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.

‎On May 29, 2026, at about 3:00 a.m., the Divisional Police Headquarters in Fika received a distress call that youths had invaded Ngalda Market, engaging in intimidation, public disturbance and robbery. Patrol teams mobilised and arrested seven suspects.

‎Abdulkarim said preliminary investigations revealed the suspects allegedly pursued teenage girls without provocation, causing panic among traders. Goods were reportedly looted and vandalised with sticks and cutlasses during the attack.

‎Also on May 29, at about 5:40 a.m., operatives of B Division, Damaturu, conducted a raid at Pompomari Kan Tudu and arrested two suspects, Jibrin Mohammed, 30, and Kashim Kyari, 22, linked to robbery activities in the area.

‎Abdulkarim said investigations are ongoing to identify other fleeing suspects and masterminds behind the attacks.

‎Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police, Usman Jibrin, reaffirmed the command’s zero tolerance for armed robbery and youth hooliganism.
