A video allegedly showing bandits assaulting abducted women in northern Nigeria has circulated online, triggering widespread outrage and renewed debate on insecurity in rural communities.
The footage, which emerged on Friday, has intensified public criticism of government strategy against armed groups. Some Nigerians are calling for full military escalation, while others maintain that negotiation remains the only viable option to reduce violence and secure release of captives.
Security analyst Bakatsine said the video highlights the growing brutality of bandit groups and the urgent need for decisive action to protect civilians in vulnerable communities.
“As emotions run high and attacks continue, the credibility of any lenient approach toward these groups is being tested by the scale of atrocities against civilians,” Bakatsine stated.
Authorities have not confirmed the location or date of the video. Security agencies say operations against bandit camps in the Northwest and North Central zones are ongoing.
