The FCT Police Command has arrested seven suspects in four separate operations between May 15 and June 2, recovering an AK-47, 111 rounds of ammunition, stolen phones, and a vehicle, Commissioner Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi said.
Sanusi said three suspected kidnappers, Umar Babangida, 25, Adamu Yeti, 22, and Yahaya Idris, 24, all from Rijana, Kaduna State, were arrested on May 25 during a raid in Runji Village, Zuba. Police recovered one AK-47 with 30 live rounds, eight phones, and videos of the suspects in military camouflage. The gang’s leader, “Esco,” remains at large.
In a separate case, a Cameroonian, Emmanuel Acha Leku, 32, and his girlfriend Kazan Vincent were arrested in Benue State after demanding ₦5 million ransom for a victim police later found murdered in Lokogoma.
Sanusi said Leku killed Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, 22, over a fraud dispute and used the victim’s phone to fake a kidnapping. The remains were deposited at Sahad Hospital, Apo, for autopsy.
Police also arrested Yau Sule on June 2 along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway with 81 AK-47 rounds and 100 GPMG rounds. He led operatives to his sister, Maria Sule, wife of wanted bandit Buhari Shuaibu, who is accused of supplying ammunition to terrorist networks in Kaduna, Niger, and FCT border areas.
Two “one-chance” robbery suspects, Muhammed, 22, and Muhammed Saidu, 20, were arrested on May 15 along Giri-Lugbe Road. A laptop, iPhone, knives, and scissors were recovered from their vehicle.
Sanusi urged residents to report suspicious activity through FCT Police emergency lines.
