Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, says the reconstruction of Douglas Road in Owerri is aimed at addressing years of congestion, insecurity, and economic decline along the route.
During an inspection of the project site , Uzodimma said the road’s deplorable condition had encouraged criminal activities and illegal trading, undermining public safety and commercial flow.
He said the project is part of his administration’s Urban Renewal Programme designed to restore infrastructure and revitalize Owerri’s economy.
“The quality and pace of work observed are consistent with government expectations, and I am pleased that progress remains on track for completion within the contractual timeline,” the governor stated.
Douglas Road is considered a major economic artery in the state capital.
