Troops of 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have rescued five kidnapped victims abandoned by fleeing terrorists during counter-terrorism operations in Kogi State.
The rescue occurred on 17 June 2026 as troops intensified operations against terrorist enclaves in the state’s forested areas.
Acting on directives following a recent air interdiction mission, troops from Forward Operating Base Oshokoshoko mounted a blocking operation along the Oshokoshoko–Adankolo route in Adankolo Forest.
During the operation, vigilant troops intercepted the five victims who had been abandoned by terrorists fleeing military pressure on their camps.
The victims were immediately secured and evacuated from the forest for assessment and care. They were later moved to a military medical facility for treatment and stabilization. The victims were also debriefed for intelligence to aid ongoing operations aimed at neutralizing remaining terrorists.
Efforts have commenced to reunite them with their families after completion of medical and administrative procedures.
The Commander, 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi, commended the troops for their vigilance and professionalism.
He said the achievement reflects the Brigade’s commitment to protecting lives and property, and reassured residents that aggressive operations would continue until lasting peace is restored.
He urged the public to provide timely and credible information to security agencies, noting that public support remains critical to operational success.
