Troops of 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have rescued five kidnapped victims abandoned by fleeing terrorists during counter-terrorism operations in Kogi State.

‎The rescue occurred on 17 June 2026 as troops intensified operations against terrorist enclaves in the state’s forested areas.

‎Acting on directives following a recent air interdiction mission, troops from Forward Operating Base Oshokoshoko mounted a blocking operation along the Oshokoshoko–Adankolo route in Adankolo Forest.

‎During the operation, vigilant troops intercepted the five victims who had been abandoned by terrorists fleeing military pressure on their camps.

‎The victims were immediately secured and evacuated from the forest for assessment and care. They were later moved to a military medical facility for treatment and stabilization. The victims were also debriefed for intelligence to aid ongoing operations aimed at neutralizing remaining terrorists.

‎Efforts have commenced to reunite them with their families after completion of medical and administrative procedures.

‎The Commander, 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi, commended the troops for their vigilance and professionalism.

‎He said the achievement reflects the Brigade’s commitment to protecting lives and property, and reassured residents that aggressive operations would continue until lasting peace is restored.

‎He urged the public to provide timely and credible information to security agencies, noting that public support remains critical to operational success.
