The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has dismissed reports of suspected Ebola cases in Yola, Adamawa State, confirming that laboratory tests returned negative.
‎
‎In a press statement signed by its Director-General, Dr. Jide Idris, on 31st October 2026, the NCDC said it is working closely with the Adamawa State Government through the State Ministry of Health and Human Services to investigate the alert.
‎
‎According to the agency, the report was received by the Adamawa State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre (PHEOC) in the early hours of 30th October, following the identification of two individuals presenting symptoms suggestive of Ebola.
‎
‎”The individuals have been isolated, and appropriate public health measures have been initiated. Samples were collected for laboratory testing to establish the cause of the illness. Fortunately, the samples turned out negative for EBV after two rounds of testing,” the statement read.
‎
‎The NCDC commended the Adamawa Commissioner for Health and his team for their proactive approach and assured continued technical support to strengthen response operations.
‎
‎The Centre clarified that currently, there is no laboratory-confirmed Ebola case in Adamawa State, adding that the index case previously confirmed in the Federal Capital Territory remains the only confirmed case reported in Nigeria to date.
‎
‎It urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid sharing unverified information, advising Nigerians to obtain information only from official government and public health channels.
‎
‎The NCDC reminded Nigerians that Ebola is a serious infectious disease that requires prompt identification and warned anyone experiencing symptoms such as fever, severe weakness, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea or unexplained bleeding, particularly following relevant exposure, to seek immediate medical attention and avoid self-medication.
