The Lagos State Government has warned food vendors operating in public schools to strictly comply with approved health and safety regulations, stating that principals will be held responsible for any violations.
The warning was issued by the newly appointed Supervising Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District III, Dr. Idowu Olufunke Oyetola, during her maiden strategic meeting with principals at the district headquarters in Falomo, Ikoyi, where she formally assumed duty and outlined her administration’s vision.
“All food vendors operating within school premises must strictly comply with laid-down regulations, while principals will be held accountable for any violations recorded in their schools,” Dr. Oyetola said.
She charged principals to uphold excellence, discipline, and integrity ahead of the forthcoming WASSCE, noting that Education District III ranks second in the Lagos State WAEC performance index. She urged schools to sustain and improve on it, intensify preparations, maintain zero tolerance for malpractice, and ensure all eligible students are registered and prepared for the BECE.
On administration, she emphasised accurate data capture for staff and students, and reminded retiring officers to notify the district six months ahead to avoid delays.
Reaffirming commitment to holistic education, she directed schools to participate in the 15 approved state competitions and ensure proper training and logistics. She also urged staff to keep their Ilera Eko plans active and intensify student enrolment into the scheme.
Dr. Oyetola concluded by calling on administrators to remain dedicated and maintain high standards to shape responsible future leaders.
