...vows To Remove Structures on Waterways
UYO – Akwa Ibom State Governor, His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno, has directed relevant ministries, agencies, consultants and contractors to review the State’s drainage master plan within one week and present both immediate and long-term solutions to flooding.
The Governor gave the directive on Sunday after inspecting flood-affected areas in Uyo.
According to the Governor, buildings and other structures blocking natural waterways will be removed to allow the free flow of stormwater.
He, however, noted that proper engagement and compensation will be carried out where necessary.
“I sympathise with affected residents and appreciate the Deputy Governor, the emergency response team, and the contractors for their prompt intervention,” Gov. Eno said.
He also urged residents to desist from dumping refuse in drains and waterways, stressing that keeping them clear is critical to preventing flooding.
“God bless Akwa Ibom State,” the Governor added.
