The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has declared Morocco the winners of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, overturning Senegal’s 1-0 victory in the final.
‎
‎The CAF Appeal Board ruled that Senegal forfeited the match after their players briefly walked off the pitch in protest of a late penalty awarded to Morocco. As a result, Morocco was awarded a 3-0 walkover victory.
‎
‎The controversy began when Senegal’s players walked off the field in protest after the referee awarded a penalty to Morocco in stoppage time.
‎
‎They returned after a 17-minute delay, and Senegal eventually won the game 1-0 with a goal from Pape Gueye.
‎
‎CAF cited Articles 82 and 84 of the tournament regulations, stating that any team refusing to continue play or leaving the field without authorisation will be considered to have forfeited the match.
‎
‎Senegal has announced plans to appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
