LONDON – Chelsea have confirmed the signing of England midfielder Jordan Henderson on a free transfer.
The 36-year-old joins the Blues after leaving Brentford by mutual consent and has signed a two-year deal at Stamford Bridge.
Henderson brings vast experience to West London, having captained Liverpool to Premier League and Champions League titles before spells abroad and in the Premier League with Brentford.
Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso had identified the need to add leadership and experience to his squad this summer. The club has now secured two seasoned Premier League campaigners, with Henderson joining alongside 35-year-old striker Danny Welbeck in the same transfer window.
Both signings are expected to provide depth and guidance to a young Chelsea squad as they prepare for the new season.
