GUSAU – The Nigerian Army has released an official account of the attack on Kasuwar-Daji community in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, contradicting some of the earlier reports.

‎In a statement on Sunday, the Army said troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA successfully repelled an attempt by terrorists to overrun the Forward Operating Base in the area.

‎According to the military, the troops inflicted heavy casualties on the attackers during the encounter.

‎The Army confirmed that one Army officer and one police officer were killed in action. Two soldiers who sustained injuries were airlifted for treatment and are said to be in stable condition.

‎Contrary to earlier reports that six security personnel were killed, the Army dismissed the claim as inaccurate.

‎The military also said troops pursued the fleeing gunmen and rescued nine abducted civilians.

‎The Army added that exploitation and clearance operations are still ongoing in the area, and that a clearer picture of the incident is expected to emerge as more verified information becomes available.

‎The attack on Saturday night had earlier been reported to have led to the killing of four soldiers and the abduction of about 70 people, mostly women and children.
