Nigeria international forward Victor Boniface showed his readiness for the new season with a brace for Bayer Leverkusen in their 7-0 win over amateur side Sportfreunde Baumberg.
‎
‎Boniface is back at the club after spending last season on loan at Werder Bremen, where he failed to make sufficient impact to earn a permanent deal.
‎
‎He was the first among the Leverkusen players to resume for preseason training and wasted no time in making his mark with two goals. It is a sign that he is getting back to the form that made him an instant hit at the club when he joined three seasons ago.
‎
‎Fellow Nigeria international Nathan Tella also got among the goals as Leverkusen began life under new coach Carles MartÃnez Novell.
‎
‎The Spanish head coach was officially appointed in June 2026 on a two-year deal lasting until June 2028, taking over following Kasper Hjulmand’s departure.
