The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives has pledged the House’s commitment to reforms that will strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy and support the transition from analogue to digital broadcasting.
Speaking at the Official Digital Switchover Ceremony in Abuja on Wednesday, the Deputy Speaker said the initiative by the National Broadcasting Commission and NIGCOMSAT would expand Nigerians’ access to the “FreeTV” platform.
He said Nigeria’s young and dynamic population requires digital infrastructure and legislative frameworks to thrive in a technology-driven world.
The Deputy Speaker reaffirmed the House’s commitment, under Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, to advance reforms in cybersecurity, broadband access, digital skills, and innovation.
He also commended President Bola Tinubu for placing the digital economy at the centre of the administration’s economic agenda, as well as the NBC and NIGCOMSAT for driving the project.
“The success of this Digital Switchover will be measured by its impact on ordinary Nigerians – expanding access to information, creating opportunities, and reducing inequality,” he said.
