The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally declared its support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
‎
‎The declaration was made on Thursday in Umuahia during the inauguration of the Abia State Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) for President Tinubu’s re-election.
‎
‎Speaking on behalf of the PDP governorship candidate, Dr. Kelechi Anosike, as well as the leadership and membership of the party in the state, the State Chairman of the PDP and Deputy Governorship Candidate for the 2027 election, Elder Amah Abraham, said the decision was taken in the broader interest of Abia State.
‎
‎Amah said the Abia PDP was supporting the President’s second-term ambition under the National Rainbow Coalition initiative championed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike.
‎
‎He explained that the decision was informed by the party’s commitment to political cooperation and its belief that the broader interests of Abia State should take precedence over partisan differences.
‎
‎Amah, however, stressed that the support must be anchored on the principles of equity, fairness, mutual respect and reciprocity.
‎
‎According to him, while the PDP in Abia is prepared to work with the APC and other political interests to secure the President’s re-election, it equally expects the APC leadership and stakeholders in Abia State to reciprocate the gesture by supporting a mutually beneficial political arrangement in the state.
‎
‎Amah declared that the party remains open to genuine collaboration, strategic alliances and coalition arrangements capable of strengthening its position ahead of the 2027 Abia State governorship election.
‎
‎He noted that the PDP’s willingness to cooperate with the APC at the presidential level should not be misconstrued as an abandonment of its governorship ambition or a surrender of its political identity in Abia State.
‎
‎The PDP chairman also expressed the Abia PDP’s confidence in the National Rainbow Coalition initiative being championed by Chief Wike, whom he acknowledged as a national leader of the PDP.
‎
‎He described the initiative as an opportunity for political stakeholders across party lines to build bridges, promote understanding and establish alliances that accommodate their respective political interests.
‎
‎Amah reaffirmed that the Abia PDP remains committed to constructive engagement with all stakeholders who share its vision of building a stronger, more competitive and more accountable political leadership in Abia State.
