A Federal High Court in Katsina State has sentenced Hauwa’u Mukhtar to death by hanging for conspiracy to commit terrorism and aiding terrorism.
‎The Department of State Services, DSS, prosecuted the convict after arresting her on September 16, 2023 at Jibia Motor Park, Katsina. She was caught attempting to transport 438 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition to Ado, a notorious bandit kingpin operating in Dunburum Forest, Zamfara State.
‎Security sources said the DSS filed a two-count charge before High Court No. 3, Katsina, Suit No. KTH/65C/2023, presided over by Justice A. B. Bawale.
‎After evaluating evidence, witness testimonies, exhibits and final addresses from both counsel, the court held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt. Justice Bawale found Mukhtar guilty on both counts and sentenced her to death by hanging under the Penal Code Law of Katsina State, 2021.
‎The DSS described the conviction as a milestone, demonstrating its capacity to intercept criminal actors and secure landmark convictions through decisive legal action.
‎Recall that about a month ago, a Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced Halima Haliru Umar to 20 years imprisonment for unlawful possession of 302 AK-47 rounds and supporting terrorism. That marked the second conviction of a female arms courier secured by the DSS this year.
