Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has stated that June 12 represented the day Nigerians spoke with one voice in 1993 and chose Chief MKO Abiola in what he described as the freest and fairest election in the country’s history.
In a Democracy Day message posted on X, the governor said the mandate was not about one man but about the power of the people to decide their future.
Soludo noted that 26 years later, Nigeria continued to build on that foundation. He credited the heroes of June 12, civil society, and ordinary Nigerians who insisted “this vote must count” for the democracy the country enjoyed.
The governor stressed that real development started with credible, transparent, and inclusive elections. He added that democracy required unity, vigilance, and leaders who answered to the people.
Soludo urged Nigerians to choose peace over division and tolerance over threats as the nation remembered June 12.
He congratulated President Bola Tinubu, the Federal Government, and all Nigerians, saying the ballot remained the most powerful weapon citizens had.
“May Nigeria continue to win,” he said.
