The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, has grounded a private aircraft in Lagos and suspended its operator’s permit after the plane made an emergency landing on a roadway near Asaba and later took off without regulatory approval.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, when the aircraft missed its approach at about 7:43am local time and landed on a road in Ogwashi-Uku, near Asaba, Delta State.
All four crew members exited safely with no injuries reported, according to NCAA Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu.
NCAA said preliminary findings show the aircraft departed the site at approximately 11:02am GMT for Lagos without approval. Air Traffic Control was notified only after takeoff.
The Authority said the unauthorised departure violates the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations and is under investigation. On arrival in Lagos, the NCAA grounded the aircraft and placed the crew under regulatory review.
The NCAA has notified the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau and is coordinating with the operator and the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency. The operator’s Permit for Non-Commercial Flight, PNCF, has been suspended pending review of all operational and maintenance records.
The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to safety, security, and regulatory compliance in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
