‎Following agitations, the National Leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reversed the zoning of its governorship ticket to Abia Central Senatorial District, directing that the party maintain the status quo in Abia State.

‎The reversal was contained in a statement issued to newsmen on Friday by the Abia State Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Uche Aguoru.

‎According to the statement, the National Leadership reviewed concerns raised by stakeholders after the State Working Committee (SWC) announced the zoning arrangement.

‎“The National Leadership has directed that all zoning arrangements earlier issued by the State Working Committee be disregarded. The party will, therefore, maintain the status quo,” the statement read.

‎The National Leadership, however, urged all aspirants interested in contesting for the House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, and Governorship positions to approach the party and obtain their Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms before the stipulated deadline.

‎Recall that on Thursday, the Abia APC SWC announced that it had zoned its governorship ticket for the 2027 election to Abia Central Senatorial District.

‎The SWC cited the state’s tradition of power rotation since 1999 and noted that the State Chairman hails from Abia North while Abia South produced the immediate past governor.

‎It therefore described zoning to Abia Central as “just and equitable.”

‎The National Leadership’s directive effectively nullifies the SWC’s decision, throwing the race open to aspirants from all three senatorial districts.
