Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abia State Chapter, has zoned its governorship ticket to Abia Central Senatorial District.
The decision was contained in a statement issued to newsmen on Thursday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Chief Uche Aguoru.
According to the statement, the move is to guide members and intending aspirants ahead of the sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms.
Chief Aguoru explained that the zoning arrangement was adopted in the interest of equity, justice, fair play, and the party’s commitment to balanced representation across the three senatorial zones.
The statement recalled that since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999, Abia State has maintained an unwritten understanding of power rotation among Abia North, Abia Central, and Abia South to foster unity and inclusiveness.
The party noted that the decision was further informed by current political realities: the State Chairman of the party hails from Abia North Senatorial District, while Abia South produced the immediate past governor of the state. “It is therefore just and equitable for Abia Central to produce the next governor on the APC platform,” the statement read.
The APC appealed to aspirants and stakeholders from other zones to respect the decision in the spirit of sportsmanship and party loyalty, urging all members to unite to secure victory for the party in 2027.
