As part of efforts to tackle terrorism and insecurity, the United States military says it has deployed some forces to Nigeria in a collaborative operation between Washington and Abuja.
According to Reuters, the commander of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), General Dagvin R.M. Anderson, revealed this on Tuesday.
Anderson said an agreement was reached between Nigeria and the United States on the need for closer military collaboration to increase counter-terrorism operations.
Without disclosing the exact size and details of the mission of the deployed team, Anderson called it a small contingent with unique capabilities provided by the United States.
Newsbuka reports that the development marks the first official acknowledgement of US forces in Nigeria since airstrikes were conducted by Washington in December 2025.
