…pledges Welfare-driven Government
The PDP 2027 Governorship Candidate in Abia State, Barr. Kelechi Anosike, has presented Elder Abraham Amah as his running mate, describing the choice as “deliberate, strategic and for the future of Abia.”
Anosike announced this on Thursday at the party secretariat in Umuahia, saying the decision was easy because Amah has remained “the last man standing” in the party.
He noted that during the turbulence that followed the outcome of the 2023 election, Amah stayed loyal, galvanised members, and kept the party structure intact.
“Amah has been a loyal party man. The National Working Committee is pleased with the choice because they also asked pertinent questions about the kind of deputy I want to work with,” he said.
The governorship candidate reiterated that his administration will prioritise “Service, Welfare, and Progress.” He said Amah fits into that philosophy, which made it easy to arrive at the conviction that he is the right person.
He described the ticket as a joint one, adding that with Amah, victory in 2027 will be easy for the party.
PDP, he said, is already “back to the front burner” and “unsettling the system,” and is targeting victory at all levels from ward to state.
Anosike announced that campaign activities will intensify from next month, with the party’s campaign office at 7 Aba Road, Umuahia, already being renovated.
He pledged a “welfarist philosophy” that will see civil service and LGA arrears cleared within 100 days, payment of living wages, and support for farmers, pensioners, and youths, to ensure no Abian “goes to bed hungry.”
“Governance is about the welfare of the people,” he said, adding that cabinet positions will go to committed party members, not outsiders.
He called on PDP members to “close ranks,” stating: “There is no victor, there is no vanquished. There is only one family, one mission, and one destination which is victory in 2027.”
Addressing newsmen, the Deputy Governorship Candidate, Hon. Abraham Amah, said his nomination was based on a leadership decision and his 30 years of political experience.
Amah, who is also the PDP State Chairman, recalled winning a seat in the Abia House of Assembly in 1997 under the United Nigerian Congress Party, and working with several former governors of the state.
“I did not see it coming, but over the years I have prepared myself for leadership. What he needs as an incoming governor is a man who can stay by his side to give him all the necessary support. And I am ready to be that man,” he said.
He said he has offered himself to serve alongside Anosike to deliver a “people’s first government,” and that his experience positions him to provide support in governance, economy, agriculture, and security.
On post-primary reconciliation, Amah said a committee was set up immediately after the primaries and has reached out to other aspirants, while the governorship candidate is also engaging them.
“A man is defined by how you were able to manage your loss, or your gain,” he said, urging aggrieved members not to be defined by defeat.
