The United States has finally bombed Venezuela and toppled its president, Nicolas Maduro after months of threats and pressure tactics.
Reports say Maduro and his wife have been abducted by the US forces and taken to a detention centre in New York, where he is being questioned over alleged drug-trafficking charges.
Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez has faulted the kidnapping of Maduro, insisting he is the only president of Venezuela.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump says Washington will run Venezuela and tap its vast oil reserves, but he gave few details on how the US will do it.
The United Nations Security Council is due to meet on Monday on the matter, with Secretary-General Antonio Guterres saying the US actions set a dangerous precedent.
Aside Guterres stand, leaders around the world have also responded with a mix of condemnation and support to the US capture of Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said his government would shed no tears for the end of Maduro’s regime.
Elsewhere, neighbouring Latin American countries condemned the actions, same as Venezuela’s long-term allies, Russia and China.
China said it was deeply shocked and strongly condemns the use of force against a sovereign country and its president.
