Troops of 1 Brigade, Operation FANSAN YANMA, have repelled a terrorist attack and neutralised one suspect during a follow-up operation in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the troops responded to reports of terrorist activities in Kanoma District at about 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
Military sources said troops made contact with the assailants at Kanoma Hill and overpowered them with superior firepower, forcing the terrorists to retreat.
“During exploitation operations ahead of Kanoma Hill, troops encountered suspected terrorists riding on two motorcycles. One terrorist was neutralised while others escaped,” a source told Zagazola Makama.
Items recovered from the scene include one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine loaded with four rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and two motorcycles believed to have been used by the attackers.
Military authorities confirmed that no casualty was recorded among the troops during the operation.
Operation FANSAN YANMA is the military’s ongoing offensive against banditry and terrorism in the North-West region.
