Troops of 8 Division, Operation FANSAN YANMA, have foiled a bandit attack on Imasa Matankari village in Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto State, recovering 25 rustled cattle and preventing further destruction in the community.
Security expert Zagazola Makama, while quoting sources on X, said the incident occurred on June 2 at about 2:00 p.m. when armed bandits in large numbers invaded the remote settlement along the Sokoto-Zamfara border, shooting sporadically and rustling livestock belonging to residents.
Makama said the troops immediately mobilised to the area and blocked possible escape routes.
The security team engaged the attackers in a gun duel that lasted several minutes, forcing the bandits to flee through Kuruwa Forest.
The hoodlums reportedly abandoned the rustled cattle in their escape, allowing the operatives to recover all 25 cows unhurt.
According to him, no casualties or injuries were recorded among security personnel or villagers during the operation.
The recovered animals are expected to be handed over to their rightful owners after identification by community leaders, while troops have maintained heightened surveillance in the area to track and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Security sources also reaffirmed ongoing efforts to sustain pressure on criminal elements and prevent further attacks in the region.
