Six persons were killed and several others injured in separate attacks by gunmen in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State on May 31, security sources have disclosed.
According to security expert Zaragoza Makama, troops of Sector 8, Sub-Sector 81 under Operation Enduring Peace were mobilised at about 9:15 p.m. after reports of sporadic shootings around Gwamajang village.
Troops said armed assailants opened fire on women processing groundnuts, killing six and wounding an unspecified number. The injured were evacuated to hospital while troops launched a manhunt.
Minutes later, troops responded to another distress call from Tukur village in Kinat community, Mangu Halle District.
Security sources said the attackers had killed three persons before fleeing on sighting the troops.
Troops set up blocking positions towards Aloghom and intensified operations to intercept the fleeing assailants.
