A true leader is known in moments of tension. In his reaction to the viral video where a young lady made derogatory comments about the Ngwa people, Chief Eric Opah has shown exactly the kind of leadership Abia needs in 2027.
Instead of responding with insults or fanning the embers of division, Opah called for restraint. He urged his Ngwa brothers and sisters not to descend into abuses or retaliation. He chose unity over outrage, and dialogue over division.
That virtue is rare in today’s political class. At a time when many would exploit such incidents for cheap popularity, Opah demonstrated capacity, humility, and the temperament of a unifier.
This is the leadership Abia requires. A state that has become increasingly divided along Senatorial zones and blocs needs someone who can galvanise all interests and speak to every Abian as one people.
Eric Opah has given us a glimpse of what that looks like. He has shown that it is possible to lead without bitterness, and to unite without compromising truth.
The question before Abians now is clear. Who do we want to lead us in 2027? A leader who divides, or a leader who unites?
