Dr. Nyerere Anyim, APC chieftain, has vowed to make Abia South youths “leaders of today” if he clinches the senatorial ticket for 2027.

‎Speaking on Monday at his Agburuike Isi-ugwu residence in Obingwa where he declared his senate ambition, Nyerere faulted the old cliché of youths as “leaders of tomorrow,” calling it a wild goose chase.

“Tomorrow never comes,” he said. “By the time you expect them to be leaders of tomorrow, they become old men without the opportunity.”

‎The 2015 APC governorship candidate said he is a strong advocate of youth involvement in politics and wants them integrated into governance now. “I don’t see youths as leaders of tomorrow. I want them to be leaders of today so they can participate from now. That’s learning on the job. Whatever I’m doing, they will do it with me. My plan is to carry them along,” he stated.

‎On subsidy removal, Nyerere praised President Bola Tinubu for the “wise” decision, noting that it has eased state finances. “Before now, states struggled to pay salaries and fix infrastructure. With the removal, sub-nationals pay workers comfortably. No state today is owing salaries or pensioners,” he said.

‎He argued that with increased allocations, no state should complain about lack of funds for basic infrastructure. “What should ameliorate our sufferings is what the FG has been giving states. If those things are not utilised for the people’s benefit, then people should start asking where the monies are going.”

Expressing hope for a better Abia South, Nyerere said it’s time to free the people from “political captivity, poverty, impoverishment, and infrastructural decay.” He added: “By God’s grace I will salvage the people from the dungeon of misrepresentation.”
