Nigerian Army Explains Response To Cameroonian Troops’ Incursion In Cross River

The 82 Division of the Nigerian Army has explained its response to the unauthorised incursion of Cameroonian Armed Forces personnel into Danare Community, Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State on June 9, 2026.

‎In a statement, Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations 82 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, said the incident was triggered by a dispute over collection of levies on farmland located between Danare Community in Nigeria and Dadi Community in Cameroon.

‎“Troops of the Nigerian Army deployed at the Forward Operating Base Danare promptly responded and contacted the appropriate Cameroonian Armed Forces authority, leading to the withdrawal of Cameroonian troops from Nigerian territory in line with established border protocols,” the statement read.

‎According to the Army, the situation was immediately contained without further escalation.

‎The Division reiterated its commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and ensuring security of border communities within its area of operations.

‎“The Division remains committed to safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and ensuring the security of all communities along the nation’s borders in its Area of Operations, while assuring residents of Danare and environs that the situation is calm and fully under control,” Lt Col Ayeni added.
