Indebted Citizens

Must read

In western world, citizens enjoy the impact of the government,
But in Nigeria, government write our names in debtor’s book.
We hear trillions up for borrow, while we clamour with empty stomachs.
Children from alphabeta learn on the floor,
But education budgets burrow into pockets.
Our flag is green, white and green, signifying Agriculture and Peace.
Yet, we lack good food and peace in our land.

Pastors preach prosperity to people,
And offering box hug naira notes like lovers,
But when we need help, they tell us to pray.
We pay debts every day on the altar of sacrifice,
as we give, hoping to be given in return.
The government grabs Mathew’s collectors bag,
Draws plan to tax till nothing is left in us.
What crime did we commit to be citizens?
When our president flies, we pay heavily,
Yet no available jobs to clear our red inks.

Our green and red chamber rubber stamp,
endorse for bills to be borrowed, while populace gets debits in bank details,
Yet we are citizens of no mean country,
While hope remains high for the good of Nigeria.
We owe both allegiance and money to our country, but our country owes us nothing in return.
