Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has directed commanders to uphold fundamental human rights and safety of all Nigerians in discharging their constitutional responsibilities.

‎Colonel Appolonia Anele, acting Director of Army Public Relations, stated that respect for human rights is critical to operational success and national stability.

‎Shaibu gave the charge on March 17, 2026, while delivering a lecture on his Command Philosophy to Army War College participants in Abuja.

‎Shaibu emphasised that strict adherence to international humanitarian law, rules of engagement, and protocols protects civilians, enhances public trust, and supports intelligence-driven operations.

‎He noted that the Nigerian Army’s concepts have shaped its approach to combating security challenges.

‎The COAS urged participants to imbibe his Command Philosophy, prioritising the Soldier First Concept, focusing on personnel welfare, professionalism, administration, operational readiness, cooperation, and leadership.
