The factional National Chairman of the Labour Party, Barr. Julius Abure has advised the Senator Seriake Dickson-led leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, to be cautious of its alliance with former Anambra governor Peter Obi and his supporters.

‎Abure in a statement on Tuesday said Obi’s camp has a history of “conquering and usurping” the leadership of parties that accommodate them.

‎Posting on the verified X handle of the LP, Abure cited the Labour Party’s 2022/2023 experience, saying most candidates elected on LP’s platform under Obi’s influence later turned to fight the party’s leadership instead of building it.

‎“I want to say that Obi and his followers are ingrates who will never remember the sacrifices you made for them,” Abure said. “It is dangerous for NDC leadership to wholly hand over elective positions to Obi and his followers.”

‎‎Abure commended Dickson for resisting pressure to give Obi’s supporters all NDC tickets. He said balancing the ticket was necessary so the party leadership would have loyalists to defend it “when the chips are down.”

‎‎“They trooped into NDC with Obi hoping to occupy every space like they did in Labour Party. No leader seeing what Obi did to Labour Party will make that mistake again,” he added.

‎Abure said his warning followed public curiosity on how LP navigated the 2022/2023 elections amid Obi’s influence.
