The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has dismissed claims that former Senator Nkechi Nwaogu has joined the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), insisting she remains a bona fide member of the APC.
The party’s position was contained in a press statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Chief Uche Aguoru, and made available on Friday, September 25, 2026.
Chief Aguoru said the APC’s attention was drawn to a press release by the NDC claiming that Senator Nwaogu, popularly known as Mama APC, is a member of their party.
”For purposes of clarity and to put the records straight, Senator Nkechi Nwaogu remains a bonafide member of the All Progressives Congress (APC),” Aguoru stated.
According to him, Nwaogu purchased the APC Senate nomination form and participated in the APC Senatorial Primary Election held on May 18, 2026, where she scored 12,033 votes to emerge as runner-up.
He said the primary was conducted by the APC with Hon. Erasmus Cishark serving as Returning Officer and Chairman of the Senatorial Primary Election Committee.
Aguoru further stated that Nwaogu’s name is contained in the party’s register submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on May 10, 2026, being the last day for submission of party registers, adding that there is no record of her resignation from the APC.
”We are sufficiently aware that Mama APC, having served as a lawmaker, and an experienced one at that understands the legal implications of double registration. We therefore have no reason to believe that she would consciously subject herself to such a situation,” he said.
He stressed that all her registration details, including her membership card details, remain in the party’s database and in INEC’s database as a member of the APC.
The APC publicity secretary called on the NDC to desist from circulating misleading information and to refrain from creating unnecessary confusion among members of the public where facts are clear and verifiable.
