The Katsina State Government has clarified that the incident that occurred in Yankara, Faskari Local Government Area, has no connection with Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda’s campaign activities, contrary to reports circulating on social media.
In a statement made available to newsmen on Saturday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, the government said preliminary findings showed the incident arose from a disagreement between participants in a Maulud procession and security personnel over designated routes, which led to confusion along a public street in Yankara.
The Government stressed that the incident was unrelated to the Governor’s campaign engagements or the Tinubu-Dikko campaign rally in Faskari.
According to the statement, Governor Radda passed through Yankara safely on his way to Faskari, where he first visited the District Head’s Palace and was received by the District Head alongside other traditional leaders.
The Governor subsequently proceeded to the Faskari Local Government Secretariat, where he inspected ongoing renovation works at the Secretariat and Council Chambers, before attending the campaign rally and meeting with residents and supporters.
The Government called on relevant security agencies to investigate the incident and establish the circumstances surrounding the occurrence.
It also urged media organisations, bloggers and social media users to verify information before publishing or sharing reports, particularly those capable of creating confusion and heightening tension.
The Government further appealed to residents to remain calm, maintain peace and refrain from spreading unverified information.
