…assures Abians of Total Security

The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Abia State Chapter, has condemned the fresh kidnap incident along the Ogbara-Abia State University, ABSU, road, describing it as a clear failure of the Alex Otti administration to secure lives and property.

In a press release signed by its State Publicity Secretary, Rtn. Emeka Luis Okoro MNCS, and dated 5th October 2026, the party said it was deeply alarmed and saddened by the incident which occurred on the evening of 4th October 2026, where a group of innocent commuters were abducted by armed gunmen.

According to the NDC, the incident marks yet another dangerous escalation in the wave of insecurity plaguing Abia State under the current administration.

“Once again, lives have been disrupted, families thrown into fear and distress, and the safety of students, traders, and residents traveling along the Ogbara-ABSU route has been compromised. This recurring pattern of kidnappings and attacks in the area points clearly to the failure of Governor Alex Otti’s administration to provide adequate security and protect the lives and property of Abians, despite repeated promises and assurances,” the statement read.

The NDC Abia Chapter condemned in the strongest terms what it described as government’s inability to secure the critical road corridor linking Umuahia to the ABSU community, accusing the administration of silence, lack of proactive security measures, and failure to equip and coordinate security agencies which has left citizens vulnerable to criminal elements who now operate with impunity.

Stating its position, the party said the safety of every Abian is non-negotiable and remains the primary responsibility of government. It demanded immediate action to rescue the abducted victims and bring the perpetrators to justice, while also calling for urgent deployment of security operatives along Ogbara-ABSU Road and all vulnerable routes, as well as community-based security collaboration and intelligence sharing to curb the menace.

The NDC further assured Abians of its commitment to restoring peace and safety, noting that the party is ready to implement a comprehensive security framework that will guarantee total security for all Abians, one that prioritizes intelligence-led policing, rapid response units, youth employment to curb crime, and accountability in security administration once entrusted with leadership.

“We stand in solidarity with the victims, their families, and all residents who now live in fear. Enough is enough. Abia deserves better. Abia must be safe again,” the statement added.
