President Bola Tinubu says the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has justified the confidence reposed in it.
‎
‎Tinubu stated this on Friday in Awka, Anambra State, at the commissioning of a new EFCC Zonal Directorate.
‎
‎He was represented by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.
‎
‎He said the proof of EFCC’s success is evident in convictions secured and assets recovered, noting that its strides align with his Renewed Hope Agenda focused on economic reform and good governance.
‎
‎EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, said the new directorate will focus heavily on prevention and will engage government institutions, businesses, schools and communities to make corruption difficult.
‎
‎Olukoyede disclosed that between October 2023 and July 2026, the Commission received 49,673 petitions, investigated 39,615 cases, filed 14,476 cases and secured 10,872 convictions, with a conviction-to-filing ratio of 75.1 percent. He added that in the first half of 2026 alone, the EFCC recorded 1,370 convictions.
‎
‎He further revealed that the Commission recovered over N1.2 trillion, $684 million and other foreign currencies within the period, attributing the results to radical reforms including new arrest and bail guidelines and the establishment of the Department of Fraud Risk Assessment and Control.
