Foreign Affairs Minister Hosts Belgium’s Ambassador Leenknegt On Farewell Visit

ABUJA – The Minister of Foreign Affairs has received Belgium’s Ambassador to Nigeria, H.E. Peter Leenknegt, on a farewell visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, marking the end of his tour of duty in Nigeria.

The Minister noted that Nigeria and Belgium have maintained cordial diplomatic and economic relations since 1961, with cooperation in trade, infrastructure, maritime, agriculture, and through bilateral forums, EU frameworks, and people-to-people exchanges.

According to the Ministry, Ambassador Leenknegt played a significant role in strengthening the bilateral ties. He was instrumental in advancing bilateral air service talks, economic and agricultural cooperation, and vaccine production partnerships.

The Ambassador also supported initiatives to promote Nigerian creativity and facilitated mentorship and exchange programmes for Nigerian artists.

On behalf of the Government and People of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Minister thanked Ambassador Leenknegt for his service and wished him success in his future endeavors.
