ABUJA — The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has commenced a nationwide enforcement operation to remove alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and PET bottles below 200ml from circulation.
The Agency announced this on its official X handle on Wednesday.
According to NAFDAC, the exercise is in line with the Federal Government’s ban on the production, importation, distribution, sale, and use of such products.
The mop-up operation is being carried out across the six geopolitical zones.
The Agency said it follows the closure of non-compliant manufacturing facilities and is part of NAFDAC’s ongoing efforts to protect public health.
Background
The Federal Government had earlier banned alcoholic beverages in sachets and bottles below 200ml over concerns about abuse, underage drinking, and public health risks.
NAFDAC said the latest enforcement is to ensure full compliance and rid the market of the banned products.
