The Algerian Football Federation has extended head coach Vladimir Petkovic’s contract until 2028, the federation confirmed on Sunday.
Petkovic’s original deal was due to expire after the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The FAF extended it by two years, citing the Bosnian’s impact since taking charge in February 2024.
Under Petkovic, Algeria have won 21 of 28 matches, with 4 draws and 3 defeats. He guided the Desert Foxes to qualification for the 2026 World Cup after they missed the 2018 and 2022 editions.
On the continental stage, Petkovic led Algeria to the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, ending group-stage exits in 2021 and 2023.
Algeria have also risen from 43rd to 28th in the FIFA rankings and from 7th to 4th among African nations during his tenure.
The FAF said the renewal reflects its commitment to “stability and confidence in the work accomplished” by Petkovic and his technical staff.
Algeria will open their 2026 World Cup campaign against Argentina on June 17 before facing Jordan and Austria in Group J.
