President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining democracy and the rule of law in Nigeria, stating that the country’s unity and stability rest on good governance.
He made this assurance at an inter-faith breaking of the fast with APC and IPAC leaders at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Tinubu emphasised the importance of strengthening internal democracy within parties to build credible electoral institutions.
He assured party leaders of his commitment to free and fair elections, noting that direct primaries provide better opportunities for party members to participate.
IPAC Chairman, Yusuf Dantalle, praised Tinubu’s leadership and appealed for reconsideration of the National Identity Number (NIN) requirement for voter registration, citing potential voter disenfranchisement.
He also advocated the restoration of INEC’s financial support for parties.
APC Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, lauded Tinubu’s leadership and assured him of the party’s support.
According to him, a movie titled “Unbroken Democracy” showcasing 26 years of Nigerian democracy will premiere at the State House soon, supported by Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State.
