Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital, FCT, has filed a lawsuit before the National industrial Court, questioning the ongoing strike action by workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration.
Recall that the Joint Unions Action Committee (JUAC) had commenced an indefinite industrial action following the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum. Their Industrial action led to the shutdown of major government offices, including the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Secretariat.
However, the court filing is an indication that Wike and the FCTA have approached the National Industrial Court in Abuja, seeking an order to restrain the unions from picketing, blocking offices, or disrupting official activities.
According to court documents spotted online, it bears suit number NICN/ABJ/17/2026 and is slated for hearing on Monday.
Meanwhile, Justice E. D. Subilim has granted approval for substituted service of court processes on the union leadership, authorising service through newspaper publication, as well as the posting of notices at the JUAC office within the FCTA Secretariat.
Despite the legal action, JUAC has maintained its stance, vowing to continue the strike, insisting that workers’ demands have yet to be addressed.
It has also urged members to remain at home until further notice.
