‎US Mission in Nigeria Condemns Kwara Killings

The United States on Friday condemned the deadly attack on communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.

‎This is coming amid conflicting reports of number of casualties from the incident that has sparked off national and international outrage.

‎While Police in Nigeria confirmed that 75 persons were killed in the assault on Woro and Nuku communities, local sources and international observers have stated that the death toll is significantly higher.

‎Reacting via a statement on X on Friday, the US Mission in Nigeria, described the attack as horrific, adding that more than 160 people were feared dead, with many still unaccounted for.

‎The US also welcomed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to deploy security forces to the affected areas.

‎Meanwhile, the statement by the US,  adds to growing international condemnation of the attack, which has also drawn criticism from the United Nations and the Republic of Türkiye.

‎Recall that after the  killings in Woro and Nuku communities, President Tinubu ordered the deployment of an army battalion to Kaiama and approved the establishment of a new military command to coordinate security operations in the area.
