Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully repelled an attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on the Nigerian Army Acclimatization Centre, Buni Yadi in Yobe State.

The Acclimatization Centre, formerly the Nigerian Army Special Forces School, came under attack at about 10:10pm on October 29, when the terrorists stormed the location in large numbers.

However, gallant troops stationed at the facility responded with superior firepower, engaging the terrorists in a fierce gun battle that forced them to retreat after suffering heavy casualties.

‎A military source said scores of neutralised ISWAP fighters were seen littered along a bush track, while a large cache of weapons abandoned by the fleeing terrorists was recovered.

The recovered armoury includes over 40 AK-47 rifles, over 8 General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) launchers and bombs, over 40 fully loaded AK-47 magazines and several meters of linked machine gun ammunition belts.

Military sources confirmed that the situation is under control, with the area dominated and troops conducting exploitation and aggressive patrols to hunt down fleeing elements.

The foiled attack is part of desperate attempts by ISWAP remnants hibernating around Gujba, Buni Yadi and the Timbuktu Triangle to overrun military locations.
