The Presidency on Sunday dismissed concerns over President Bola Tinubu’s continued stay abroad, insisting that the President is hale, hearty and actively working.

‎President Tinubu had embarked on a three-week vacation and was expected back last Monday, but his stay was extended by “a few days” according to his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. The extension triggered reactions from the opposition demanding to know his whereabouts.

‎Onanuga, in his latest statement, said the President’s physical absence from Abuja does not affect governance.
‎
‎”Nigeria’s President is hale and hearty. He has been on a working vacation, which he is perfectly entitled to. In this digital age, he does not need to be physically present in Abuja to do the work for which he was elected,” he said.

‎He disclosed that while abroad, President Tinubu has been engaging investors in France, including facilitating a $7 billion deep-sea port project in Ogun Waterside, initiated by the Ogun State Government.

‎On criticisms over Tinubu’s absence at the 81st UN General Assembly in New York, Onanuga said Nigeria was not an exception, as South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa and Egypt’s Abdel Fattah el-Sisi were also absent.

‎The Presidency added that Tinubu will return this week to lead activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary and to attend the premiere of a movie in honour of MKO Abiola in Lagos.
