A Security expert, Bakatsine, has reported the killing of a Nigerian soldier identified as Abdulwahab Lawal by suspected bandits while traveling to his duty post in Zamfara State.

‎He said according to family members, Lawal was en route to resume duty after departing from Malumfashi in Katsina State when gunmen ambushed travelers along the road and shot him dead.

‎Posting on his verified X handle, Bakatsine, said the attackers were believed to be bandits operating in the region.
‎
‎He added that details of the exact location and circumstances of the ambush remain limited, emphasising that authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.
‎
‎According to him, family members confirmed the death of the soldier, stating that funeral prayers would be conducted in line with Islamic rites.
‎
‎He added that the killing adds to a series of violent incidents affecting security personnel and civilians in Nigeria’s northwest region.
‎
‎Bakatsine said, “Zamfara State has experienced years of armed violence involving criminal groups known locally as bandits, who frequently target highways and rural communities.”
