Kano’s political chessboard shifted on Monday as Hon. Muhammad Ahmad Tomas, Makoda lawmaker, dumped the NDC and rejoined the APC, citing 2027 realignment as reason.
Tomas announced his defection after a meeting with the Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin in Abuja.
The move adds another twist to political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Confirming the development and welcoming Tomas back to the APC, Barau described his return as a boost to the party’s growing strength in Kano.
“Today, I had the honour of receiving Hon. Muhammad Ahmad Tomas back to our great party, the APC,” the Deputy Senate President said.
The defection comes as opposition parties push to consolidate structures and build momentum for 2027.
For political analysts and observers, Tomas’s return could strengthen APC’s hold in Kano while raising questions about NDC’s capacity to retain members.
