Kano’s political chessboard shifted on Monday as Hon. Muhammad Ahmad Tomas, Makoda lawmaker, dumped the NDC and rejoined the APC, citing 2027 realignment as reason.

‎Tomas announced his defection after a meeting with the Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin in Abuja.

‎The move adds another twist to political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

‎Confirming the development and welcoming Tomas back to the APC, Barau described his return as a boost to the party’s growing strength in Kano.

‎“Today, I had the honour of receiving Hon. Muhammad Ahmad Tomas back to our great party, the APC,” the Deputy Senate President said.

‎The defection comes as opposition parties push to consolidate structures and build momentum for 2027.

‎For political analysts and observers, Tomas’s return could strengthen APC’s hold in Kano while raising questions about NDC’s capacity to retain members.
