Nigeria’s former President, Goodluck Jonathan, has insisted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is alive, strong, and resilient.
Jonathan who dismissed media speculations about the party’s decline, reaffirmed that the PDP remains a cornerstone of Nigeria’s democracy and is the only surviving original political party since 1998.
The former President made the remarks on Tuesday, while receiving members of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC), led by National Chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, at his private office in Abuja.
Newsbuka learnt that the meeting focused on reconciliation within the party and strategic preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Enumerating the party’s historical resilience and institutional strength, Jonathan said the PDP is more than a political platform, calling it a national institution.
He tasked the party leadership to ensure they prioritize national interest and institutional development over personal considerations, stressing that strong political parties are essential for democratic stability.
During the visit, Turaki appreciated Jonathan for his guidance and loyalty, promising that the party is implementing a comprehensive “Rebirth Agenda” aimed at rebuilding and strengthening the PDP.
