Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, has stated that the state’s five-decade journey, is a story defined by resilience, faith, and steady progress.
Speaking at the grand finale of the state’s 50th anniversary, Governor Uzodimma said the state is transitioning from a state that merely spends to one that deliberately builds a solid economic foundation for the future, firmly positioned for a trillion-dollar economy.
Posting on his verified X handle on Sunday, Governor Uzodimma who recalled the journey of Imo State at creation in 1976, said the state had very little, operating with a modest ₦259.4 million budget and heavy dependence on federal support, yet had the hope of a better future.
According to the Governor, after fifty years, God has proven faithful, guiding the state from small beginnings to stability and bold ambition, emphasising that successive administrations have each strengthened the Imo project.
Uzodimma said under his watch Imo has progressed and has accelerated with the budget growing to ₦1.439 trillion and IGR rising to ₦63 billion.
He said, “We have delivered over 130 roads, upgraded the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, expanded health insurance coverage, commissioned the Orashi Power Project, and equipped more than 65,000 youths with digital skills, all anchored on a 25-year development master plan for an industrialised, digitised, and energy-sovereign future.
He also appreciated President Bola Tinubu saying, “His steadfast commitment to the progress of our dear State and the nation, has been instrumental to the milestones we have achieved. I thank Vice President Kashim Shettima GCON, for consistently standing with us, and I appreciate the distinguished guests and dignitaries who joined Ndi Imo to celebrate this historic moment.
Uzodimma added, “During the ceremony, we also honoured recipients of the Imo Star Honours, both living and posthumous, whose sacrifices, service, and enduring contributions have positively shaped the development and identity of our State.”
