Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has charged insurance brokers to confront decades of misinformation and superstition while building a resilient support system to deepen insurance penetration in Nigeria.

‎Speaking on Tuesday at the opening of the 2026 CEOs Retreat of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia, Otti said in a post on his verified X handle that knowledge remains the foundation of enduring development, the cornerstone of prosperity, and the hallmark of true freedom.

‎“Without the light of learning, the superiority and dominance of our species in the order of creation would be greatly diminished. Like every treasure, knowledge is only admirable when it is shared and applied in pursuit of uplifting ideals and values,” Otti said.

‎He noted that mankind has always crossed oceans, deserts, hills and valleys to share ideas that improve human life, and that true knowledge compels engagement and delights in bearing greater fruits.

‎Otti welcomed stakeholders to Abia, describing the retreat as the start of “a new epoch” for the Nigerian insurance ecosystem and declared: “The future of the industry is not only bright, it begins right here.”

‎The governor also commended NCRIB President, Mrs Ekeoma Ezeibe, for over 30 years of leadership and mentorship, saying her role is critical at a time the sector needs leaders who think outside the box.

‎Otti warned that brokers would face a cynical public as they work to liberalise and deepen insurance knowledge, but expressed confidence that the passion, vision and commitment of NCRIB’s leadership could change the narrative faster than expected.

‎“No system of resistance can stand the power of a resilient team,” he said.
