The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate for the 2027 Abia State election, Dr. Kelechi Anosike, has declared Obingwa Local Government Area as the party’s strongest base and headquarters in the state.
Anosike made the declaration on Tuesday during a thank-you visit to Obingwa as part of his statewide appreciation tour of the 17 local government areas following his emergence as the PDP governorship candidate.
The event drew party leaders, stakeholders, and members from the 11 wards of Obingwa, who turned out in large numbers to welcome the candidate and reaffirm their commitment to the PDP ahead of the 2027 general election.
Addressing the gathering, Anosike commended Obingwa for delivering the highest number of votes in his favour during the party’s governorship primary, describing it as proof of the area’s enduring loyalty to the PDP.
“Obingwa is the headquarters of the PDP in Abia State,” he said. “I am here to thank the people of Obingwa for nominating me during the primary election. Campaigns have not started. When they begin, we will return to Obingwa to campaign.
“I have come to say thank you to the people of Obingwa for the tremendous support you gave me during the primary election. Obingwa has always stood firmly with the PDP, and I assure you that your sacrifices and loyalty will be appreciated. By the grace of God, when we form the next government in 2027, Obingwa will enjoy a special place in our administration,” Anosike said.
Other speakers at the event included the PDP candidate for Obingwa West State Constituency, Enyinnaya Appolos; the candidate for Obingwa East State Constituency, Chimaraoke Nwogu; and the candidate for Obingwa/Ugwunagbo/Osisioma Ngwa Federal Constituency, Hon. Solomon Akpulonu.
They expressed gratitude to party leaders and members for entrusting them with the party’s tickets and pledged to justify the confidence through dedicated service, effective representation, and commitment to PDP ideals.
The candidates also called on party members to remain united and work collectively to secure victory for the PDP in the 2027 general election.
The Abia State PDP Chairman, Abraham Amah, thanked Obingwa for its unwavering support and for consistently leading the party’s electoral efforts in the state.
“The PDP will once again look to Obingwa to lead the charge to reclaim the Abia State Government House in 2027,” Amah said.
He urged party members to sustain unity, set aside differences, and mobilize support across the local government to ensure a decisive victory for the PDP in 2027.
Chairman of the Obingwa PDP Stakeholders Forum, Rowland Nwakamma, who spoke on behalf of the party leadership, congratulated all the candidates on their emergence and commended members for the peaceful conduct of the primary election.
The event featured solidarity displays by party faithful, women, youths, and supporters, further underscoring Obingwa’s strategic importance to the PDP’s political strength and electoral prospects in Abia State.
